The Mandala Offering

Our school was so lucky when two Tibetan Buddhist monks came to perform a sand mandala ritual. They spent six days working on every little detail and it was very exciting to watch it all. I was lucky enough to be working right in front of the whole ritual and saw its progress everyday!

At the end of the ritual they sweep up the mandala while praying and then they usually pour it into a place as a blessing. At our school they decided to pour it into a lake. I was able to have a front row seat the whole time and took this awesome picture right before they poured the sand into the lake.

As a cool side note: Both the monks present here were personally trained at the temple of the Dalai Lama. I thought that was awesome!
